LOWELL -- A mother and her 5-year-old child were struck by a SUV in the crosswalk at Dutton and Market streets shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Both suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Lowell General Hospital, according to Fire Chief Jeff Winward.

The driver was also transported to Lowell General with minor injuries.

According to police Capt. James Hodgdon, the driver was turning onto Dutton Street from Market Street when she was "blinded by solar glare and struck both pedestrians in the crosswalk."

"According to a witness, operator was not speeding and sun glare was a factor causing the pedestrian crash," Hodgdon said.

The crash remains under investigation.
