LOWELL -- A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with what were initially thought to be serious injuries Monday afternoon after a crash on West 6th Street.

Paramedics responded to the scene at 146 W. Sixth St., around 2:30 p.m.

A 30-year-old Chelmsford man was thought to be severely injured, but once he was taken to a hospital it was determined he was not seriously hurt, said Interim police Superintendent Jonathan Webb. The motorcyclist lost control near West and Fulton streets, and hit a fence post. Neighbors said many accidents happen there at the curve.

The Lowell police crash reconstruction team was on the scene, blocking off the intersection.

Webb said no charges were immediately filed, but that could change as an investigation is completed.
